The Fertilizer Supply Chain in Nigeria

[2012] This paper analyzes the structure and performance of fertilizer markets in Nigeria and offers recommendations to improve market performance.

In this document, first, a brief background on the Nigerian agricultural sector is provided. This is followed by a detailed narrative of the fertilizer market including production, procurement and the structure of the distribution and supply chain. The following section provides an assessment of the fertilizer supply cost structure based on in-country surveys, with particular attention given to analizing the domestic supply performance and conduct. Then key constraints and bottlenecks are identified along the supply chain and concluded with a number of policy recommendations needed to address such constraints.
