[2015] This document is an IFDC ‘s survey on an assessment of fertilizer real consumption and use by crop in Ethiopia.
Until 2013, urea and DAP fertilizers have been the only fertilizers that have been in use in the Ethiopian agriculture for more than 4 decades. None of theses are produced locally and should be supplied by imports to meet the demand. Fertilizer consumption in Ethiopia has risen from 132,522 MT (1995/96) to 858,825 MT (2014/15) period. however, despite the steady increase every year, Ethiopian farmers lag far behind other developing countries in fertilizer use.
